Cindy Martinez Lewis is with the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office. She is currently the Paralegal for the Sex and Labor Trafficking Unit where, among other projects, she is primarily responsible for administering the ground-breaking prefiling diversion pilot program, Project Beacon, which utilizes victim assistance grant funds to allow a victim services provider to: (1) screen for victims of human trafficking and to get them appropriate services, including legal services to handle SB823 petitions to vacate prior arrest and convictions for those violations they were forced to commit while being trafficked; and (2) provide an earlier opportunity for intervention, education and empowerment for those who are involved in commercial sex but do not immediately identify as victims. Cindy’s previous assignments include the Cannabis Abatement and Prosecution Section as well as the Citywide Nuisance Abatement Program. Cindy has also worked at Public Counsel. Cindy graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles with a degree in Political Science, and a concentration in American politics.
